A thousand doctors back whistle-blower consultant

-

More than 1,000 doctors have written to the General Medical Council over a trainee consultant whose career is derailed after a whistle-blowing case.

Dr Chris Day, 31, complained to hospital managers when he was left in charge overnight of 15 seriously ill intensive care patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich in 2014.

Later he found he had been taken off the national training scheme for consultants. An employment appeals tribunal has now ruled that junior doctors do not have protection under whistle-blowing legislation.

Dr Day is pinning his hopes on an appeal to the High Court.
