Unveiled: the latest Mrs Jagger
Glamorous clan gathers as rock star’s son celebrates marriage to the girl he met in his sister’s boutique
James Jagger, son of Sir Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, celebrated his marriage to Anoushka Sharma in Chipping Norton on Saturday. The couple met when Ms Sharma worked in Mr Jagger’s sister’s boutique
A BIRMINGHAM-born former shop assistant has been revealed as the newest member of the Jagger dynasty after marrying the rock star’s son she met when working in his sister’s boutique.
Anoushka Sharma, 28, who has since left the retail world behind to pursue a career as an artist, celebrated her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger’s son James at a party at a stately home in the English countryside on Saturday.
The couple, who have been together more than seven years, were already officially married, after reportedly tying the knot with little fanfare last September at a low-key ceremony in New York state.
Ms Sharma, who grew up in the the suburb of Edgbaston, home to Warwickshire’s cricket ground, is thought to have met Mr Jagger, 30, while working at Jade Jagger’s luxury jewellery shop in London.
Her former boss was among the 200 guests at Saturday’s celebrations.
While Ms Sharma’s famous in-laws beamed for official pictures, there was no sign of her own family in photographs of the event.
Jade Jagger, 44, is the daughter of Sir Mick’s first wife, Nicaraguan-born Bianca – to whom it has been said Ms Sharma bears a striking resemblance – while Mr Jagger’s mother is the model Jerry Hall.
With Ms Hall, 59, having tied the knot to 85-year-old media tycoon Rupert Murdoch just a few weeks ago, the celebration was the second time this year that the glamorous Jagger clan had gathered for a wedding party.
Mr Murdoch is technically Miss Hall’s first husband. Her 1992 nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger in Bali were ruled to be void by the High Court.
Ms Hall’s three other children, daughters Elizabeth and Georgia May and son Gabriel, were at the party at the 2,000-acre Cornwell Manor estate, near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. Gabriel, 18, who shared the role of best man with his elder brother at Ms Hall’s wedding, once again had a crucial role to play, “giving away” Ms Sharma by walking hand-in-hand into the manor house. The 28-year-old bride looked radiant in a white long-sleeved gown embellished with lace and a matching demure veil. Her groom and his father opted for less traditional outfits, the former in an electric blue suit and vibrant patterned shirt, the latter in a green ensemble paired with a blue scarf. Model Georgia Jagger, 24, inset, echoed her father’s style in a tailored two-piece suit, while her mother Ms Hall looked Spring-like in a print dress, light blue overcoat and dark blue hat. Her new husband Mr Murdoch also attended the event in a blue-striped suit. The happy couple danced to It Must Be Love at the manor house, choosing the Madness song over Sir Mick’s back catalogue with The Rolling Stones. The newlyweds are believed to live in a bungalow in Austin, Texas, where they are said to lead a quiet life – although Mr Jagger’s profile is rising since starring in HBO drama Vinyl. He plays Kip Stevens, a rebellious British singer, in the gritty series revolving around the sex, drugs and rock and roll of the music scene in the 1970s. Sir Mick, 72, and Martin Scorsese are the executive producers of the New York-set drama.
