The throne may be out of reach, but as a TV host, Harry is king

- By Gordon Rayner CHIEF REPORTER

AS FIFTH in line to the throne, Prince Harry is never likely to reign over us, but he has discovered that plenty of young fans wish he would.

On a visit to a primary school in Berkshire, one nine-year-old boy got straight down to business when the Prince invited questions.

“Are you ever going to be King?” asked the little boy called Tristan.

“That’s the question everybody wanted, let’s be honest!” the Prince replied, laughing. He added: “You’ll be glad to know, probably not!” Tristan looked rather crestfallen, so the Prince dashed across the school hall at Lambs Lane Primary in Wokingham, saying: “Oh look at the disappointment! I love that! I’m going to give you a high five.”

Tristan said later: “I think it would be a fun experience for him to be king. I would love to see him be king.”

The Prince had spent much of the morning high-fiving after arriving as the surprise guest on the Sky Sports show Game Changers, which was being filmed in the school hall. He was there to help present the show, which encourages children to take up sport, and showcase some of the competitors in his Paralympic-style Invictus Games, being held in Florida next month.

He clearly went down well with his new audience. Host Di Dougherty said the Prince would make a perfect presenter. “He’d be great. He’s a natural on camera and natural off camera.”

Prince Harry later told Sky News that he was pleased to see mentally injured people competing at Invictus because he could relate to them after his two tours of Afghanistan. He said: “There are images I’ve been lucky enough not to see, but there have been images that I’ve been unfortunate to see … there is a percentage of me being able to relate to exactly what they go through.

Prince Harry performed as a dummy as part of ventriloquist Nina Conti’s act at the Queen’s 90th birthday party. A source told Hello! magazine that Harry was “genuinely brilliant” at the Windsor Castle event.
