Duncan Smith: new PM must be pro-Brexit

The next prime minister must come from the Brexit camp, former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith has insisted.

The hard-line stance would rule out Theresa May, the pro-Remain Home Secretary, who is being positioned as the “Stop Boris Johnson” candidate by MPs loyal to David Cameron.

“Whoever takes up that job, it would be very, very difficult for the public who have voted for leaving the European Union to find that they then had a prime minister who actually was opposed to leaving the European Union,” Mr Duncan Smith told BBC One’s The Andrew Marr Show.
