THOUSANDS of migrant workers are planning a day of protests as they demand “legally guaranteed protection from the fallout of the Leave decision”.

A Facebook event was set up on Friday and has since had 10,000 people confirm their attendance and a further 24,000 register interest.

The protest, due to take place on July 4, will “demand urgent action” from the Government to “ensure that our lives won’t be severely affected by the result of the vote”. Organised by Kristof Deak – a Hungarian film director based in London – the Facebook event page explains its purpose: “We want to show those who voted Leave [that] … we the two million EU citizens currently working in the UK have a central role in UK society and the economy. The Leave vote affects each and every one of us, and not a single one of us had a chance to vote on this matter.”

Mr Deak told that the original strike” was later place action”.

He said: “The event has now pivoted to a peaceful, creative, place-based protest.”

The vote for Brexit has been blamed for a spate of racist attacks at the weekend, including cards saying “no more Polish vermin” posted through letter boxes in Huntingdon, Cambs, and racist graffiti daubed on a Polish cultural centre in west London.

Baroness Warsi, a Tory peer, suggested on Sky News that the “divisive and xenophobic” Leave campaign was to blame, adding that a series of “really disturbing” hate crimes had taken place since the referendum vote.
