Naples bakers make offer that can’t be refused
If you want to buy or sell bread in the Italian city of Naples, there’s only one supplier to go to – and you’d better not refuse. So say Italian police who arrested 24 people suspected of belonging to a mafia group that has controlled the city’s bread market for years. From supermarkets to street vendors, all bread suppliers in the city’s northern neighbourhoods have been forced to buy their products from bakeries controlled by the Camorra mafia. Police also said the Camorra fixed the price higher than the open market.
