Locals battle to save bobby from desk job

-

HUNDREDS of residents have signed a petition asking police chiefs not to take their popular bobby off the beat and put him behind a desk.

They say “action man” Sgt Mike Friday will be wasted if spends his time “filling in forms” when he could be out on the streets in Hayle and nearby St Ives, Cornwall.

His role as a neighbourhood police officer is being lost next year because of budget cuts, but more than 1,500 residents have signed a petition to stop him being transferred miles away to become a custody sergeant at Camborne police station.

The petition says: “Sgt Friday is more than just a supervisor in Hayle and the local district. He is completely committed to the community.”
