British Council executive ‘mocked Prince George’
The British Council has pledged to investigate after one of its senior employees reportedly described threeyear-old Prince George as privileged, rich and living “on public money”.
Angela Gibbins, head of global estates for the organisation, which promotes British culture overseas and is part-taxpayer funded, is said to have made the comments on social media.
Ms Gibbins, 52, a self-described socialist, posted a message beneath a picture of the prince saying: “White privilege. That cheeky grin is the innate knowledge he’s royal, rich, advantaged and will never know ANY difficulties or hardships in life”.
After others replied in outrage, Ms Gibbins is said to have responded: “I don’t believe the Royal family have any place in a modern democracy least of all when they live on public money.” She is reportedly paid £80,000 a year.
The British Council promised an investigation. Ms Gibbins could not be reached for comment.
