Teetotal thirties
SIR – My daughter had a similar difficulty to Sarah Jury’s (Letters, July 25) at a supermarket a little while ago. Despite being in her early thirties and having her two children (aged five and two) with her, she was challenged when trying to buy a bottle of wine.
Her protestations that, since her son was five, she could not be under 18 carried no weight. The sign at the supermarket said that if you look under 25 you may be asked for ID. So she was refused the bottle of wine.
Whatever happened to common sense?
