Family of five found dead in ‘murder-suicide’

A family of five have been found dead in their countrysid­e home in Ireland in an apparent murder-suicide.

The bodies of a Alan Hawe, a primary school deputy principal, his wife Clodagh, a teacher in her thirties, and their three sons were discovered at the house in Oakdene Downs, Co Cavan yesterday.

It is believed the husband and wife were found downstairs, while the boys – Liam, 13, Niall, 11, and Ryan, six – were upstairs in their bedrooms.

Police have found no evidence that a firearm was used. Garda Assistant Commission­er John O’Driscoll said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
