Sea rescue

Migrants from Eritrea and Somalia jump into the water from a wooden boat to reach a rescue vessel in the Mediterranean, 13 miles north of Sabratha in Libya. Some 6,500 people were rescued in 40 separate operations yesterday by the Spanish and Italian navies, as well as NGO groups such as Proactiva Open Arms and Doctors Without Borders. The migrants cheered as the rescuers arrived and many carefully carried their babies on to the rescue ships.
