Ban for teacher pictured in bed with pupil on prom night
A CHRISTIAN French teacher who was pictured in bed with a 17-year-old pupil has been banned from the classroom.
Isabelle Graham, 28, was accused of repeatedly “engaging in sexual activity” with a pupil after being photographed with him in a Travelodge in Edinburgh after a prom night. She denied the charge. A disciplinary hearing found yesterday that she was guilty of charges against her and has been barred from the profession by the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
The scandal emerged after a picture appeared on social media following the prom night in June 2014. It showed a blonde woman in bed with a young boy standing by the door of a hotel room holding a bottle. The picture was report- edly taken by a fellow pupil who was sharing the room. Classmates said the teacher had bought drinks for students and rubbed the pupil’s legs under the table at the prom.
An investigation by police did not lead to criminal charges. For legal reasons, the pupil cannot be named.
Mrs Graham was not present at the hearing and is understood to be living abroad with her husband Andrew Wilkie, who is training for the clergy. They were married in July 2015 and she claimed that, as a Christian, she was saving herself for their wedding. In a statement, her husband said: “I have never had any doubt the allegations against Mrs Graham were false.”
Mrs Graham said she had no memory of the night, having drunk four glasses of wine. She described herself as the “victim”. Det Sgt Keith Mailer said CCTV footage showed a person who was making conscious decisions.
