What the FA says on placing bets
Football Association rules in place at the time of the fixture banned all players, managers and other officials from betting “either directly or indirectly” on matches in which they were involved or had an influence.
The rules also stated that any potential breach should be “immediately” reported to the FA.
In August 2014 the rules were expanded to prohibit anyone involved in football from betting on “any football match or competition that takes place anywhere in the world” – regardless of whether or not the individuals were involved in the particular match.
Passing on inside information to someone in order to help them place a bet is also prohibited.
