Aunt’s ‘burden’ of baby’s dog death
A police officer whose dog savaged her four-month-old nephew to death has said she will carry the burden for ever. Archie Joe Darby died after he was bitten by the “Staffordshire-bull terrier-type” dog in Colchester, Essex, on Oct 13, Essex coroner’s court heard yesterday. Police said the dog was put down with the consent of Clare Ferdinand, 31, a serving Essex Police officer and Archie’s aunt. She said she would have to “learn to cope with” the death. The inquest was adjourned until Dec 5.
