SIR – The claim that Britain now has its first new breed of hen in 80 years (report, October 20) is not correct.

Thirty years ago Stonegate Farmers Ltd produced the Speckledy hen and the Colombian Blacktail. Blacktail eggs are still sold by Waitrose to this day. Wittersham, Kent
