Hillary looks tailormade for the White House
Clinton’s choice of a white suit for the final US election debate gave her an angelic vibe
I’m not usually given to commenting on the fashion choices of female politicians, mostly because I couldn’t give a fig if someone is wearing leopardprint kitten heels and a blouse that the more restrained among us might think of as a tad revealing. Still, I was quite taken with Hillary Clinton’s outfit at the third and (thankfully) final televised presidential election debate.
It has been said that she chose a white suit as a nod to the Suffragettes, who wore the colour as “the emblem of purity” which “symbolises the quality of our purpose”. Others say she is being patriotic, having worn red and blue at the previous debates. I think she may have simply been making a striking visual point – because looking at Donald Trump in his black suit and red tie, next to Clinton in her virginal suit, was a bit like watching the Devil take on a glorious angel. The contrast served to elevate her above him.
Let’s hope the same can be said on polling day in three weeks’ time.
