Chaps, take it easy in the gym, pecs are overrated

-

Impossible not to cheer at news that gym obsessed fellas lack stamina where it counts. No, not fetching the Sainsbury’s bags in from the car; in the boudoir.

Ha! It seems being well ripped and worked out leaves a man ill equipped between the sheets, which marks a victory for those of us snuggling up to comfy dad bods of a night.

I recall a book published last year that revealed women prefer men built for comfort not speed, because they are keepers.

Lusting after a hunk is very much a niche activity as attested by a divorced friend who launched himself on the dating scene seven months ago. Having first shed three stone and employed a personal trainer, he looks fantastic and yet he is in despair.

Given he’s just about the right side of 40, solvent and can do DIY, I should have thought he would be mobbed. He has been, but not in a good way.

“I was chatting to a girl online and she seemed nice,” he recounted just this week. “We were flirting and I sent her a message confessing I’m a complete softie beneath my muscular exterior .”

And what did she send him? Dear Readers, it was a selfie of her bare bottom. She was 32!

Another girl FaceTimed him topless. A third “booty-called” him (that translates as ‘‘summoned him for sex’’, m’Lud) past midnight even though they had only ever spoken twice.

“What has happened to women?” he sighs. “I know I’ve been off the scene for over a decade, but seriously, they all seem to have gone sex mad.”

At first he was thrilled so many girls fancied him, but now he feels despondent. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad. I fear it’s the Men’s Health physique that is attracting the wrong ’uns who equate pecs with sex. But there’s no need for him to tuck into pasties like a Sutton FC goalie just yet. For us real women a six-pack is too much; but I think we can all agree that a three pack would make a lovely treat.
