Pcs who delayed 999 response will keep jobs

-

Two policemen who delayed attending a 999 call about a suicide to go to McDonald’s are likely to keep their jobs.

Metropolitan Police constables Gavin Bateman and Tony Stephenson spent half an hour drinking tea and filling out paperwork before attending the home of Fahima Begum, who was found dead 40 minutes after sending a suicidal message to a friend. A hearing accepted that their actions were an “honest mistake” and concluded that they had committed misconduct, but not gross misconduct meaning they will likely stay in the force.
