Why a home isn’t truly clean without daily bathroom scrub

- By Katie Morley CONSUMER AFFAIRS EDITOR

PEOPLE who want a “clean home” must wipe their shower and lavatory every day, and wash doormats once a month, according to the arbiter of home-making, Good Housekeeping.

Its new checklist of chores analyses when it is worth donning the rubber gloves and when it is best to leave the duster in the cupboard under the sink.

The magazine listed the tasks that need to be done on a daily basis, those which should be blitzed weekly and others which can wait months or even a year until they need to be done again.

Eight jobs need doing every day, it said, including making the beds, washing up dirty plates, wiping the hob and cleaning the shower and lavatories.

A further eight jobs needed doing weekly, including cleaning bed linen and towels, doing the laundry and dusting household surfaces.

Beyond that, vacuuming the mattress, dry cleaning duvets, wiping the inside of the fridge, and cleaning the oven inside and out can be tackled every three to six months, it added.
