SIR – You report (February 27) that shoppers have been picking up bacteria from packs of chicken.

But what about checkout operators? They must be handling these packs all the time, and may be unwittingl­y passing bacteria on to other items, as well as being at risk themselves. If “one in 100” packs is contaminat­ed, all operators must handle at least one in their shift, and probably more. Linda Shelley Woodbridge, Suffolk
