‘Evil’ BBC is out to get Jeremy, says brother

- By Robert Mendick CHIEF REPORTER

THE BBC is “evil” and will take every opportunity it can to prevent Jeremy Corbyn becoming prime minister, the Labour leader’s brother said yesterday.

In an astonishing outburst, Piers Corbyn accused the corporation of a series of cover-ups to protect the establishment but insisted Labour could still win a “reasonable” majority.

Mr Corbyn, 70, who is two years older than his brother, also claimed the pollsters were getting it wrong by failing to detect “shy Corbynistas”.

He said: “The BBC is evil and they will carry on being evil. At every oppor- tunity they criticise him [Jeremy]. The BBC have never been so biased against any party leader as now. That is because Jeremy stands for something different.

“Jeremy Corbyn stands against the globalist elitist establishment and the BBC has been in the past and in the present [part of that].

“If you look at Orgreave [the infamous clash between police and miners] and Hillsborough, they [the BBC] have been involved in cover-ups.

“Look at paedophilia and the coverup of Jimmy Savile.”

Mr Corbyn, an astrophysicist who runs a weather forecasting business, said his brother would use social media and “alternative” news outlets to get his message across and win over voters – just as Donald Trump did in the US.

Mr Corbyn claimed polling was failing to capture support for Labour, which is currently trailing the Tories by around 20 points. Mr Corbyn said: “I think Jeremy can get a reasonable majority … The polls are biased. There are shy Corbynistas. The polls are absolutely under-representing him. I correctly forecast Trump’s victory months ahead and that Brexit would happen and people didn’t believe me.”

Mr Corbyn said he would be campaigning for Labour, adding that in 1998 he was invited to Downing Street by Tony Blair among a group “of the best organisers in the country” within Labour’s ranks.

Mr Corbyn, an ardent Brexiteer, also applauded Ken Livingstone’s ability to win votes for Labour. Mr Livingstone is currently suspended from the party for bringing it into disrepute over his comments about Hitler and Zionism. Mr Corbyn said: “In the past Ken has provided magnificent leadership. As of now it is not for me to comment on what Labour is doing internally for whatever reason, however bizarre.”

A BBC spokesman said last night: “As everyone knows, we are an independent and impartial broadcaster.”
