Arm-twist teacher spared jail for cruelty

-

A teacher who twisted a pupil’s arm to make him pick up a textbook will never work in a classroom again.

Assistant head Jane Roscoe, 48, was suspended from Lever Park School, Horwich, Greater Manchester, after grabbing the 11-year-old boy’s wrist and wrenching his arm in October 2014. Her husband, Colin, was the school’s head. Both later resigned.

Roscoe, of Bolton, admitted cruelty to a pupil at the town’s crown court.

She received a suspended 16-week jail term and must do 80 hours’ unpaid work. The court heard Roscoe had handed back her teaching certificate.
