Labour’s vision for Britain is a throwback to the chaos of the Seventies
SIR – For those of us who remember growing up at the end of the Seventies, when the trade unions brought chaos to this country and Labour’s economic incompetence gave rise to spiralling inflation, it beggars belief that Jeremy Corbyn’s memory can be so short.
The fact that Labour also seems content to saddle younger generations with a multibillion-pound debt is too gruesome to contemplate. Is its new manifesto going to be an even longer suicide note than the one in 1983?

SIR – In 1997 it was Things Can Only Get Better. Will the Labour theme tune for 2017 be Let’s Do the Time Warp Again?

SIR – I suspect the Tories are quietly delighted by the leaking of Labour’s draft manifesto, knowing that the voting public generally avoids parties that are too far from the centre.
I believe that, once the costings are revealed, they will be clinically taken apart. It would be interesting to know who was responsible for the leak, and whether or not the Labour Party leadership quietly encouraged it.

SIR – What a revelation that an increase in corporation tax will fill the black holes in education, the NHS and the police, to name just three.
Why hasn’t any other party previously spotted this bottomless pit of money?

SIR – I am puzzled by how, in Jeremy Corbyn’s Britain, anybody could ever become one of the so-called “highest earners” that he intends to tax more heavily.

SIR – While there is much to be dismayed about in the Labour manifesto, I suspect that the many thousands of commuters who have suffered for a year at the hands of Southern Rail will not be aghast at one aspect of it.

SIR – Intelligent, sensible people believed that Jeremy Corbyn could never become leader of the Labour Party – but he did.
Intelligent, sensible people believed that Donald Trump could never become president of the United States – but he did.
If intelligent, sensible, Conservative-thinking voters believe that the idea of Labour getting into power on June 8 is so preposterous that they don’t need to vote, a Labour government run by Jeremy Corbyn, Diane Abbott and John Mcdonnell could become a reality.
Every single Conservative-thinking voter must get out and vote.
