US airmen held rave at Airbnb holiday let

-

MORE than 50 US Air Force troops held a rave in a converted barn in Norfolk after booking it as a holiday let on Airbnb, it has emerged.

The night ended with the owner being punched, the police being called, the barn damaged and the USAF opening its own inquiry.

Owner Sara Bear accepted a booking for her £85-anight two-bed converted farm building next to her home in the tiny village of Kenninghall, Norfolk.

The booking, for last weekend, was made by an American servicewoman who claimed she wanted to rent the barn for “a quiet weekend” for her and her partner.

Mrs Bear, 37, and her husband went out for the evening but received an urgent text from a neighbour telling them to return.

When they arrived home at 1.30am on Saturday, they found the barn crammed with US service personnel, who had brought their own sound system, a smoke machine and disco lights.

Mrs Bear asked them to leave and called the police. She said most of the partygoers left but some objected. She added: “They argued and one of the servicemen punched my husband, cutting his cheek and mouth which is now being treated by the police as an assault.”

A spokesman for the USAF at Lakenheath said: “We are co-operating fully with the investigation being conducted by police...i can tell you that we hold our airmen to high standards.”
