Nigerian wins £1 damages
♦ A former Nigerian state governor has won a High Court declaration that he was unlawfully detained by the Home Secretary – but he will only get £1 in damages.
James Ibori, a former DIY store cashier, was jailed for fraud totalling nearly £50million in April 2012. He claimed £4,000 in damages. Mrs Justice Cheema-grubb said Amber Rudd “failed to have regard to her limits to detain” as attempts were made to claw back millions from the fraudster.
