Victorious V-signs
SIR – As a keen photographer I am in despair over the current craze for posturing, pouting and V-signs in photographs, particularly in selfies.
It seems now, after The Wedding at the weekend, that the V-sign is acceptable, no matter how young you are and how smart the wedding. James Edgar

SIR – The most pernicious example of an American assault on British culture (Letters, May 20) is the adoption of the raising of the middle finger as a gesture of contempt for one’s fellows.
The usurpation of the traditional British inverse victory sign as an invitation to go forth and multiply is an outrage. Its loss strikes at the very core of what it means to be British, and I urge your readers to use the gesture wherever and whenever appropriate.
