City comes together in moving vigil for victims

- By Eleanor Steafel

THE evening sun shone over Albert Square, as the people of Manchester came together to pay their respects to those killed in the attack.

Political figures including Home Secretary Amber Rudd and Jeremy Corbyn joined Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham on stage.

Poet Tony Walsh performed a touching ode to Manchester called This Is The Place, turning the mood from one of sadness to defiance as he hailed the “Mancunian way to survive”, saying: “In the face of a challenge we always stand tall.”

Sarah Gallagher, 14, said several of her friends were at the concert. “I wanted to come to show I’m not scared,” she said.
