Mobile phone saved woman’s life by diverting shrapnel

- By Helena Horton

THE husband of a woman injured in the terror attack has spoken of how her mobile phone saved her life.

When the bomb went off Lisa Bridgett, of Pwllheli, was talking to a friend on the phone – and lost a finger as a steel nut from the explosive went through it and her phone, cutting through her cheek before it lodged in her nose.

She is recovering in hospital and while she will be scarred her situation is not believed to be critical and it is thought she will make a full recovery.

Her husband, Steve Bridgett, said the phone probably diverted and slowed down the nut. He wrote on Facebook: “She has suffered multiple injuries including losing the middle finger from her left hand...the fact she was on her phone at the time has probably saved her life.”

Mr Bridgett thanked emergency services and said he has arranged to meet an arena steward called Peter to thank him for taking his wife to safety.
