Alert over Manchester bomber’s suitcase

- By Hayley Dixon

A SUITCASE carried by Salman Abedi on the day he carried out the Manchester bombing is still missing and should be treated with caution if found by members of the public, police said last night.

Officers released a CCTV image of Abedi on the day that he blew himself up carrying a large wheelie suitcase through Manchester city centre. They are asking members of the public to contact them immediately if they see the piece of luggage.

Greater Manchester Police is still piecing together Abedi’s movements between May 18, when he returned to the UK from Libya via Istanbul and Dusseldorf, and the moment that he walked into the foyer of the Ariane Grande concert and detonated the bomb in his backpack on May 22, killing 22 people and himself.

Det Chief Supt Russ Jackson, from the North West Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “We have no reason to believe the case and its contents contain anything dangerous, but would ask people to be cautious.”

It is believed to be a Kangol hard suitcase, on sale at £40 at Sports Direct, where it is understood Abedi purchased the Karrimor rucksack used to transport his nail bomb. Det Chief Supt Jackson said: “Did you see Abedi with this suitcase between the 18 and 22 May 2017? Where did you see him with it during that time?”
