Roaming from Canterbury on a pilgrim path

SIR – It is good news that Italy is trying to upgrade 103 important decaying structures along the Via Francigena (report, May 19).

This pilgrim route to Rome does not begin at Paris but at the doors of Canterbury cathedral, thus connecting two great Christian centres. The City of Canterbury, working with Rome, has done everything it can to promote this ancient route over many years. Dr John Gilbey
