‘Forget trade with Australia – the food will go off ’

Britain’s food industry will struggle to export to Australia postbrexit as its products “will go off ”, according to Emily Thornberry. Asked about the UK’S future trade with major Commonwealth countries post-brexit, the shadow foreign secretary told a hustings: “I think we need to be hard-headed about this and think about what structures it is we’re going to be trading with... the majority of our trade takes place with the European Union. And things like our food industry, you can’t export it to Australia – it will go off.”
