Boy, 12, hanged himself in bedroom after forgetting his school books

-

 A schoolboy hanged himself in his bedroom when he feared he would be in trouble with teachers after he forgot to take his satchel into school.

Tyrese Glasgow, 12, only realised he did not have his text books with him when his mother was driving him to school in June last year. But although he agreed to walk back to get his school bag, Tyrese, from Mossley, Greater Manchester, got home to discover he had misplaced his door key and was unable to get in.

Fearing he would be rebuked by teachers, Tyrese failed to return to school. He was later let into the house by his mother’s partner but he ran to his bedroom where his mother subsequently found him.

An inquest was told the Year 7 pupil at Saddleworth School in Oldham had been a “giddy funny boy” but was badly affected by the break-up of his parents. His mother Katy Cross, 32, told the Stockport hearing: “He was emotional, nervous and aware of the problem he couldn’t fix.”

Coroner Anna Morris recorded a narrative conclusion and said: “There is no evidence Tyrese intended to take his own life. He was a young man who was struggling to cope with complex and competing emotions.”
