Canon and husband found dead at home

-

 A former Canon of Leicester Cathedral and her husband have been found dead at their home.

Former teacher Mary Lawson, 63, and her husband Sean, 50, a council environment chief, were found in their £500,000 detached house in Wiggins Close, Rugby, Warks, in the early hours of Sunday after neighbours alerted police to “a commotion”.

Det Insp Matthew Pyatt said: “We are not treating the incident as suspicious. The incident was contained to the property and we’re not looking for anyone else... the case will be handed over to the coroner.”

One neighbour said: “This is a close-knit community and they both did more than their fair share for it... i’m just heartbroken they have died. You couldn’t wish for a better couple or met a nicer pair of people.”

A church spokesperson said that Mrs Lawson had suffered ill health since a stroke in 2015.
