Cosby may have ‘both his wives’ at trial
BILL COSBY is expected to be supported by “both his wives” when he appears in court today, for the opening of his trial for sexual assault.
Camille, the entertainer’s real wife of 53 years, and his television spouse, Phylicia Rashad, could both attend the hearings to be held outside Philadelphia, says the New York Post.
Cosby, 79, has always denied all the allegations but few in Hollywood now defend him after almost 60 women came forward to accuse him of sexual assault.
Rashad, 68, played Claire Huxtable in the groundbreaking Eighties sitcom The Cosby Show.
“Phylicia has never wavered in her support of Bill and she’s said she’ll be available for whatever he might need, whenever he might need it,” a source close to the actress told the Post.
Camille Cosby, mother of their five children, could also attend, though she has rarely been seen in public since the outcry began in 2014.
Cosby’s team hopes other members of The Cosby Show cast such as Keshia Knightpulliam and Malcolm-jamal Warner will also attend as, for the first time in more than a decade, he faces Andrea Constand – the one woman whose case still stands under the US statute of limitations.
Cosby has said he will not give evidence at the trial, which is expected to last two weeks. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
