Khuram Butt “verbally assaults” Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Ramadhan Foundation, which fights extremism, at a rally in Westminster. Butt is led away by police but not detained.

Butt is brought to the attention of MI5 and counterterrorism officers but is not deemed a priority because there is no intelligence he is planning an attack.

Neighbour Erica Gasparri reports Butt to police for attempting to radicalise her children. She is told information has been passed to Scotland Yard but hears nothing more.

Butt appears in The Jihadis Next
Door, a TV documentary in which he poses in front of an Isil flag. Police detain but do not arrest him.
July 6 2016
Butt accuses Islamic scholar Dr Usama Hasan of being a traitor and an apostate. Butt is reported to counterterrorism officers by Quilliam, a think tank that fights Islamist extremism.
January 2017
Police arrest and caution Butt for his verbal and physical assault on Dr Hasan.
