‘Determined’ cancer patient climbs Everest

-

A MAN who has been told he has months to live has become the first cancer patient to conquer Mount Everest.

Ian Toothill, a 47-year-old personal trainer, reached the summit on Monday and has raised almost £31,500 for cancer charity Macmillan.

Mr Toothill was diagnosed with bowel cancer in June 2015. He is originally from Sheffield and lives in Willesden Green in London.

The Sheffield Wednesday fan planted the flag of rival team Sheffield United at the summit of the world’s highest mountain on Monday – after a friend donated £1,000 for him to do so.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield in February, he said: “I’m determined to prove anything is possible.”
