Election volunteers face food ban

- By Laura Hughes POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT

VOLUNTEERS at some election counts have been told they cannot bring bags or food into work tonight after the recent terror attacks.

Returning officers have been advised on what measures to impose on staff amid concerns over voters’ safety.

They have also been told that the Cabinet Office is ready to fund extra security precautions for polling stations in certain areas.

John Turner, the chief executive of the Association of Electoral Administrators, told The Daily Telegraph: “It’s a decision made by any returning officer in any particular constituency and will be subject to advice they’ve received, the venue itself and all sorts of factors.”

The results are expected earlier than in 2015, when local elections were counted and sorted at the same time.
