UK sets new record for renewable energy
The UK has hit its highest renewable energy output level with wind turbines and solar panels helping to meet more than half the country’s electricity demand. National Grid’s data at lunchtime yesterday showed solar panels producing around 7.6GW of electricity while wind farms generated 9.5GW of power. The UK also burnt 2GW of renewable biomass and produced a modest amount of hydro electricity to put traditional power plants in the shade.
