Collins cancels shows after head injury in hotel fall

- By Hannah Furness

PHIL COLLINS has cancelled two of his “Not Dead Yet” comeback concerts after falling over in the middle of the night on his way to the lavatory.

Collins, 66, was rushed to hospital with a severe gash near his eye, forcing him to pull out of his London shows, his management said.

The former Genesis star tripped in his hotel room and hit his head on a chair on a visit to the bathroom in the middle of Wednesday night, hours after he performed at the Royal Albert Hall as part of his first tour in a decade.

Collins suffers from a “drop foot” as a result of a back operation that causes him difficulty walking.

He was taken to hospital for stitches and kept under observation for 24 hours.

His concerts tonight and tomorrow at the venue have been postponed until November and he is expected to continue his comeback tour in Cologne on Sunday before performing at British Summer Time Hyde Park on June 30.

His management said: “He rose in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and slipped. Phil sends his sincere apologies and thanks to fans.”

Collins has suffered several health problems since 2000, when he lost his hearing in his left ear.

In 2007 he was left unable to play while on tour with Genesis. In 2015, he underwent emergency surgery after waking up unable to move his foot.

Collins has spoken of how he gave up alcohol for three years after fearing it was killing him. In 2012, he was hospitalised with pancreatitis as a result of drinking, but has since insisted he was not an alcoholic.

Last week, he disclosed he can enjoy a couple of glasses of wine again.
