‘Oscar moment’ as seat given to wrong winner

The Mansfield count suffered its own “Oscars moment” on Thursday after the wrong winner was announced. Conservative candidate Ben Bradley had won the seat with 23,392 votes. But the returning officer mistakenly announced that Sir Alan Meale, the Labour candidate, had triumphed.
