Mass participation Highest voter turnout for 25 years

-

Britons voted in the snap general election in their highest numbers in 25 years, figures have shown. With just one seat left to declare last night more than 32million votes had been counted. The figure was unlikely to surpass the 33.6million who voted in the 1992 poll won by Conservative leader John Major. As a proportion of the electorate, the 2017 figure of 68.7 per cent is the highest since Tony Blair’s 1997 Labour win (71.5 per cent).
