Hillsborough police chief sacked unlawfully
A police chief who was fired last year after being accused of blaming the Hillsborough disaster on fans was “unlawfully” removed from his job, a court has found.
The High Court ruled that David Crompton, the former chief constable of South Yorkshire, should not have been forced to resign by the region’s police and crime commissioner.
Mr Crompton was removed after he referred to “other contributory factors”, which an inquest jury found caused or contributed to the disaster.
