Runaway pigs bring motorway to a standstill

A group of 19 pigs caused a three-mile traffic jam on a Japanese motorway after making a dash for freedom while on the way to market.

The animals trotted cheerfully along the hard shoulder after the lorry carrying them collided with another vehicle.

Police scrambled to round them up on the Hanshin Expressway near Osaka, western Japan.
