‘I’m not dead’

Former Top Gear host Richard Hammond has apologised to his wife after he crashed a £2 million electric supercar while filming in Switzerland.

The Grand Tour presenter broke his leg after the car veered off the road and down a grass verge, before bursting into flames.

Hammond’s co-host Jeremy Clarkson described it as “the biggest and most frightening” crash he had ever seen. The accident took place on Saturday during filming for the motoring show while Hammond was taking part in a hill race.

He posted a video from his hospital bed entitled “I’m not dead”, in which his leg can be seen propped up.

In the message, he thanks hospital staff for treating him and says sorry to wife Mindy.
