Singin’ in the Rain (1952) TCM, 4.45PM ★★★★★

There are few movie scenes more memorable than Gene Kelly’s rainsoaked Singin’ in the Rain sequence, or many more jaw-dropping than Donald O’connor’s walk up the wall. But more than song and dance, this film contains real satire as it recounts the introduction of the “talkie” and the superficial nature of the US film industry. Debbie Reynolds co-stars as the Hollywood ingénue, alongside. Cyd Charisse and Jean Hagen.

The Lost Boys (1987) SYFY, 9.00PM ★★★★

Teen flick meets horror in this Eighties hit about two boys (Jason Patric and Corey Haim) who move to a quiet, northern California town where they become involved with a group of bloodthirsty vampires. These days it has to compete with the likes of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, but there’s still enough action, intrigue, danger and romance to keep you hooked. Kiefer Sutherland and Corey Feldman also star.

The Hit (1984) LONDON LIVE, 11.30PM ★★★

Stephen Frears’ stylish and offbeat gangster film stars Tim Roth, who is taken on as an assistant to a jaded hit man (played by John Hurt) when he gets wind of government snitch Willie Parker (a subtle and comic Terence Stamp) living abroad. Roger Waters and Eric Clapton provide the music, and Spain provides a splendid backdrop for a rather sordid story. Laura del Sol and Jim Broadbent are among the supporting cast.
