Pressed press
SIR – Some years ago, I was an expat working in Ikeja near Lagos in Nigeria.
Obtaining my copy of The Daily Telegraph proved very difficult, so when an enterprising local offered to supply the paper just one day after publication I took up his offer.
It turned out he was in league with the cabin crew on the daily flight in from Gatwick. They would gather the complimentary newspapers, iron them flat and sell them on. The downside was that the puzzles had usually been filled in (Letters, June 9). However, it was a small price to pay to have contact with something from home.
