POP singer Beyoncé has given birth to twins in Los Angeles, her father confirmed yesterday.

Mathew Knowles posted a digital birthday card to the newborns of Beyoncé and rap star Jay Z, her husband, on Twitter, with a tag that said: “They’re here!”

The card read: “Happy Birthday to the twins! Love, Granddad.”

The twins were born on Monday, celebrity news website TMZ reported, but have remained in hospital because of a “minor issue”.

Beyoncé has stayed in hospital with the babies, with TMZ reporting that they are a boy and a girl. Beyoncé’s representative is yet to comment.

“Bey and Jay are thrilled and have started sharing the news with their family and closest friends,” one unnamed source told People website. The twins will be siblings to five-year-old Blue Ivy.

The Lemonade singer, one of the most powerful women in the music business, announced the pregnancy on Instagram in February, along with an image of her posed in lingerie and caressing a baby bump.

The announcement got more than eight million “likes” in the first 24 hours, becoming the “most-liked” Instagram ever.

The birth of Blue Ivy caused a paparazzi storm in 2012, with New York’s Lenox Hill hospital shutting down part of its maternity wing for music’s royal couple.
