A mountain to climb... EU offers a walking stick

The two chief negotiators exchanged gifts, choosing metaphor-laden presents related to climbing mountains. Mr Barnier gave Mr Davis a traditional hand-carved wooden hiking stick, with a leather wrist strap. Mr Davis, who shares Mr Barnier’s love of hiking, bought him a first edition of the mountaineering book Regards vers Annapurna, signed by Marcel Ichac, one of the two authors.
