Mystery of Devon’s lost mansion may be solved
Archaeologists believe they may have found the location of a historic lost mansion that was started in 1775 but never completed.
Rumours of the property in Devon – three times bigger than the surviving building at Killerton estate and more befitting of the wealth and status of the Acland family, its original proprietors – have circulated for many years.
However, an archeological survey may now have found proof, after uncovering a large rectangular earth bank that had been hidden by laurels in wood beyond the house. Further surveys are planned over the summer.
