One might be seen as careless ... now May loses 10th aide

-

Theresa May’s 10th political adviser is leaving Downing Street after less than a year in the role.

John Godfrey, the Prime Minister’s policy chief, is the latest in a long line of senior aides to quit his senior post.

Her joint chiefs of staff, Fiona Hill and Nick Timothy, were forced to step down after criticism of their role in the Tory election campaign.

Mr Godfrey, a former executive at financiers Legal & General, is a point man with government ministers.

A Conservative source said the former Home Office adviser was leaving with “good wishes”.

It is understood that his deputy Will Tanner announced he was stepping down last week. On Tuesday, it was reported that Chris Brannigan, Mrs May’s head of government relations, has also quit.
